Southern Cross Invercargill Hospital is the southernmost private surgical hospital in the Southern Cross network, it is widely known and used by people throughout the Southland and Queenstown-Wakatipu basin areas. The hospital features advanced theatre systems, including robotic orthopaedic surgery.  Our highly skilled and caring team provide excellent care to 4200 patients per year. Our elective surgical services include Breast; Endoscopy and Gastroenterology; General; Gynaecology; Ophthalmology; Oral and Maxillofacial; Orthopaedic; Ear Nose and Throat; and Urology surgery. 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Southern Cross Invercargill Hospital is looking for a passionate and clinically confident Registered Nurse to join our Peri‑Anaesthesia team (Admissions, PACU, and Day Stay) in a 1.0 FTE, 12‑month fixed‑term role. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high‑performing perioperative service where you’ll deliver outstanding care across the entire surgical journey. Working in partnership with patients, whānau, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring safe, seamless, and positive surgical experiences.

You’ll be welcomed into a close‑knit, supportive team where your skills and experience will be valued across perioperative services. Your day‑to‑day work will include pre‑operative assessment and preparation, post‑anaesthetic recovery care, clinical monitoring, discharge coordination, and accurate documentation. Reporting to the Peri Anaesthesia Services Manager, this role is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is ready to make an impact from day one. 

Alongside providing culturally safe, patient‑centred care, you’ll contribute to quality improvement initiatives and support the development of colleagues and new team members, helping to foster a professional, collaborative culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate 
  • At least four years’ experience in surgical nursing. 
  • Previous PACU experience is welcome but not essential, as full training will be provided
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a high‑volume, multidisciplinary surgical team
  • Strong organisational capability, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills, with a flexible and solutions‑focused mindset
  • Experience in a private surgical or healthcare setting is advantageous
