Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital is a well-equipped private surgical hospital based in central Hamilton, proudly providing a wide range of surgical specialties to the wider Waikato community for many years. Our hospital has eight fully equipped operating theatres, 43 inpatient beds (including four high-dependency unit beds), and a purpose-built Day Surgery Unit. We offer a range of specialties, including but not limited to, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, spine, and general surgery specialties.
Comfortable facilities, combined with the very latest in technology and on-site support services, enable independent credentialled medical practitioners to undertake a wide range of procedures. These include routine investigations to complex surgery, with their expertise supported by caring, professional nursing teams.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Ward team at Southern Cross Hamilton Hospital in a part-time permanent role (0.9 FTE). This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a modern hospital environment where teamwork, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient care are at the heart of what we do.
As part of our ward team, you'll care for patients across a variety of surgical specialties, supporting them throughout their hospital journey. You'll undertake patient assessments, deliver clinical care, monitor recovery, and respond to changing patient needs, helping to achieve the best possible outcomes. Working alongside surgeons, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for patients and their whānau.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys the variety of surgical nursing, and is committed to delivering safe, high-quality care. This role works rostered shifts across Monday to Sunday, including mornings, afternoons, and nights.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Current Nursing Council of New Zealand registration and a valid APC
- At least two years' post-registration experience within a surgical ward or comparable acute care setting
- Experience working in High Dependency Unit (HDU) environments is highly regarded
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality care across a variety of surgical specialties
- Strong clinical judgement with the ability to assess, prioritise and respond to changing patient needs
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
- A strong focus on patient safety, quality outcomes and continuous improvement
- Previous private hospital experience is beneficial but not essential
- Availability to participate in a rotating roster, including day, afternoon and night shifts
