 Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is a modern private surgical facility with integrated specialist consulting services. It includes five operating theatres, day procedure units, advanced diagnostics, and an intensive care unit—enabling care for a wide range of patients, including those undergoing complex elective surgeries. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As a Sterile Services Technician, you’ll be a crucial part of our theatre team – the behind-the-scenes superstar ensuring every surgical procedure runs smoothly and safely. You’ll take charge of the full sterilisation cycle – from decontamination and inspection to testing, assembling, packing, and sterilising reusable medical devices. Whether it’s precision-cleaning surgical instrument sets or preparing essential theatre equipment, your meticulous work will help deliver world-class care, one tray at a time.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, precision, and infection control across our surgical services. From expertly handling and decontaminating instruments to testing, packaging, and sterilising with accuracy, your attention to detail ensures every item is theatre-ready. You’ll confidently operate cutting-edge equipment, uphold rigorous compliance with AS/NZS 4187 and Southern Cross infection control standards, and contribute to quality assurance, documentation, and service improvements. As a valued team member, you’ll collaborate, share knowledge, and maintain a strong commitment to professional development – all while helping us deliver safe, seamless care to every patient. 

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Previous experience in a Sterilising Department is preferred
  • New Zealand Certificate in Sterilising Technology (Level 4) is beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance/control and infection prevention standards
  • Skilled across all functional areas of Sterile Supply Services or the ability to learn
  • Understanding of the mechanical operation of various sterilising equipment
  • Competent computer skills, particularly in MS Windows and related systems
  • Ability to be flexible and work rostered shifts
